AzATSA 2012 Conference

The conference will be on May 4, 2012 and will include multiple speakers. The morning will feature Kurt Bumby, who will talk about a comprehensive approach to sex offender management. The afternoon will feature Robin Wilson, who will talk about sex offender treatment. This will be followed by a panel discussion lead by Dave Harvey.

Kurt Bumby - Collaborating to Enhance Outcomes: The Comprehensive Approach to Sex Offender Management

Kurt BumbyDr. Kurt Bumby received his doctoral degree from the Clinical Psychology Training Program’s forensic specialty track at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Over the past several years, he has had a diverse career in the juvenile justice and adult criminal justice fields, primarily specializing in the area of sex offender management. He currently is a Senior Manager with theThe Center for Effective Public Policy (the Center), a criminal justice consulting firm that administers, among a number of national initiatives, the Center for Sex Offender Management (CSOM). In his current capacity at the Center, Dr. Bumby provides training and technical assistance to a range of stakeholders – including legislative committees, the judiciary, supervision and treatment agencies, paroling authorities, and other multidisciplinary groups throughout the country – and is involved in the development of policy and practice briefs, training curricula, and other written resources and products. Among his prior positions, he was the Assistant Deputy Director and Clinical Director for the Missouri Division of Youth Services, the Director of Juvenile and Sex Offender Services and Assistant Director of Correctional Mental Health Services for a private behavioral health corporation, and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology with the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. Dr. Bumby has published journal articles and book chapters on a variety of forensic topics such as the assessment, treatment, and overall management of sex offenders, youth violence, child maltreatment, reentry, and alternative sentencing options for adults and juveniles. He is a prior recipient of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) Graduate Research Award for Research Excellence in the Field of Sex Offender Treatment and a co-recipient of the Hugo G. Beigel Research Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. Dr. Bumby serves on the National Advisory Committee for the Safer Society Foundation and is the current President of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers.

Robin Wilson - Treatment of Persons Who Have Sexually Offended: Where We Were, What We Learned, and What We Are Doing Now

Robin WilsonRobin J. Wilson, Ph.D., ABPP is a researcher, educator, and board certified clinical psychologist who has worked with sexual and other offenders in hospital, correctional, and private practice settings for more than 25 years. He maintains an international practice in consulting and clinical psychology and is an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neuroscience at McMaster University. Dr. Wilson’s interests are focused on collaborative models of risk management and restoration in community settings. He has published and presented widely on the diagnosis and treatment of social and sexual psychopathology. Dr. Wilson is the President of the Florida Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers and is the elected Southern Regional Representative on the Board of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA). Dr. Wilson is presently the Editor of the ATSA Forum and sajrt.blogspot.com, in addition to being a member of the editorial boards of several scientific journals.
